Located between the gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean, Key West has the most exciting sport fishing the tropics have to offer, more varieties of fish, than almost any other fishing destination without leaving the country. The local waters ofKey West offer a wide variety of both offshore and on the reef charter fishing for swordfish, marlin, sailfish, wahoo, tuna, dolphin(mahi mahi), marlin, tarpon, grouper, snapper, shark and more!!!

Captain Jason has been charter fishing these waters for over 10 years and uses a wide variety of different fishing techniques depending on the weather and season.

Deep Drop Swordfish Fishing
The elusive Swordfish have become one of the most sought after gamefish in Key West. Swordfish sheer power of these giants with few comparisons are by far the studs of all the bill fish. Swordfish range in size from about 75 lbs to wellover 2-300 lbs. and found far offshore so the weather plays a factor when we fish for them. Conditions need to be right for a night Swordfish trip, the time of year and the moon plays a big part of the trip. In recent years we have found that daytime Swordfish fishing has become very sucessful.

Reef & Wreck Fishing
Bottom fishing in Key West will not only provide action but also some of the tastest fish around as well. Your likely to catch a variety of different species of fish including grouper, mutton snapper and yellowtail snapper. We start by anchoring up over a reef or wreck and chumming. Usually after a short wait you will start to see fish. The action is usually fast and furious!!!

There are hundreds of deep wrecks and shallow wrecks around Key West, The deeper wrecks tend to hold the kingfish and amberjack, loner fish. While fishing out there it is not uncommon to hook into that trophy, where as the shallower wrecks hold large numbers of schooling fish.

Shrimp Boat Fishing
This is a very unique type of fishing only to Key West. It requires a long run out to the shrimp boats first thing in the morning before they dump their shrimp garbage. The number of fish species that congregate behind the boats is spectacular and range from blackfin tuna to cobia to bonita to sharks. The sheer numbers of fish are staggering. Its an amazing light tackle experience. Ths type of charter requires a bright and early start because of the shrimpers schedule, they shrimp at night and sleep during the day so you need to be there as the sun comes up. Fishing the shrimp boats is seasonal and times of year are better than others. The weather is also an important factor because it is a long run.

Tarpon Fishing
Also known as the "SILVER KING", tarpon range in size from 50 lbs to well over 150 lbs, and is by far the best of all light tackle fishing. Key West harbour is home to some of the great tarpon fishing anywhere in the world. Tarpon can also be found in the passes and channels all around Key West as they make their annual migration around Florida. Using live bait or a cut bait, anchored or drifting is a technique exclusive to Key West tarpon fishing.

Offshore
When you lookout over the hundreds of square miles of ocean off Key West, its hard to believe there is such an abundance of sealife there is. The gulfstream offers such an abundance of fish. Dolphin (mahi mahi), wahoo prowl the weedline that make their way north. They can be found under floating debris (flotsum)and be on the lookout for sea birds feeding on the scapes of marlin, dolphin and wahoo as they feed. There may be no better way to test your mantle as an angler then to fish light tackle.
KITE FISHING
During the sailfish season you will see a number of boats out on the reef, drifting in 100 - 300 feet of water with red, green or yellow kites flying out past their boats with fishing lines suspended from them. Sailfish, and kingfish are usually the targeted species, but its not uncommon to hook=up with a dolphin (mahi mahi), tuna, wahoo, or cobia. Flying a kite and positioning a live bait in the water produces a very natural look for the bait. This also allows us to set up more bait. By using the kite lines it spreads the baits out to cover more area.
Tournament Fishing If it swims, we have a tournament for it, dolphin (mahi mahi), marlin, tarpon, sailfish, wahoo, kingfish. The prize money in tournaments can range from $1,000 to $250,000. Captain Jason of Triple J Charters is a proven tournament angler and our 32 ft SeaVee is rigged and ready for any of Key West's tournments.
